Bolt tensioning with safe, high-performance hydraulics

Bolt tensioning is a method of controlled tightening which applies load to a bolt by stretching it axially. Mechanical efforts to create torque are replaced with hydraulic ultra-high pressure.

Below is a more precise explanation of how bolt tensioning works.

The bolt tensioning tool is assembled onto the bolt to be tightened. The hydraulic coupling/hose is attached


Hydraulic pressure is applied to the tensioner from a tensioning pump.

The nut is wound down against the joint force.

Pressure is released and the bolt remains with accurate load


The hydraulic equipment is disconnected followed by removal of the tensioner.

Breathing-air cascade application

Hydrogen sulphide gas can pose one of the most vicious and deadly hazards in the oil and gas industry. In the case of a break-out, the number of casualties can be substantial. Hence the need for strict regulations and continuous improvements. In high doses, the gas, also known as H2S, can cause a man to lose consciousness in a matter of a few seconds.

In case of an H2S leak, operators will put on their breathing apparatus with individual oxygen tubes but, if the leakage persists, they can connect to a cascade system in order to save oxygen. To do so, they can quickly and easily disconnect the CEJN breathing-air couplings from the individual tube and immediately connect to the cascade system. The connection is 100% intrusion free. The cascade system also serves as a meeting point where the whole team can congregate to ensure nobody is missing.

CEJN secures sub-sea testing

A producer of floating oil and gas exploration is using CEJN ultra high pressure products in their testing operations. CEJN Series 116 couplings and ultra-high pressure hoses are being used to flush and pressure-test large sub-sea manifolds that connect four oil wells to the floating facilities.

The ultra-high working pressure of CEJN’s Series 116 coupling, together with ultra high pressure hose, guarantees reliable connection for the 300-ton manifold positioned 480 metres (1,575 feet) below sea level.
