CEJN meets increasing demand for leak-free products

The business of agriculture, whether growing crops or rearing livestock, is exposed to many challenging conditions. The work environment is dirty and the weather constantly exposes equipment to extremes of temperature, humidity, rain and dust, all resulting in the wear and tear of machine components. Different chemicals and lubricants are frequently used, affecting both the workers and the environment. Increased investments in high-tech machines create a need for innovative and environmentally-friendly connectors. In order to meet the growing demand in agriculture and farming, CEJN has a wide range of leak-free hydraulic couplings made of durable materials for flexible solutions.

Our mission: to produce clean and leak-free hydraulic systems

With its hydraulic range, CEJN has decided to work hard to promote and supply plug-in fittings and quick-connect couplings for clean and leak-free hydraulic systems.

The core product ranges in our mission are the X-series, Multi-X, TLX and WEO Plug-In. Although today’s advanced hydraulic systems set high demands on cleanliness, outdated ISO-A poppet valve-type couplings are still being used in many modern machines. Consequently, a high volume of hydraulic oil is spilled worldwide every day due to disconnections that result in hefty clean-up and replacement oil costs. Subsequently, contaminants can enter the hydraulic system during connection, reducing the service life of the components as well as the overall system.

For example, one of our customers was previously plagued with oil spills and leakage from a 14-ton excavator. As the poppet valve-type couplings routinely spilled oil on disconnection, more than 200 litres (53 gallons) of replacement oil were needed annually for the machine! By using CEJN Flat-Face quick-connect couplings, the customer improved performance and efficiency, and by saving the 200 litres of oil, the payback was almost immediate.

Save time with WEO Plug-In fittings

A CEJN customer and front-loader manufacturer experienced a problem on their high-speed production line during assembly of a new version of their front-loader. It took too long to fit the standard nipples in the valves, and oil leakage occurred on a regular basis.

The slowdown and, on occasion, complete halt in production forced the customer to look for a new solution. Following a presentation of our WEO plug-in fittings, the customer quickly saw the benefits of these threadless couplings and nipples and decided to replace his old standard nipples with the WEO type.

With WEO Plug-Ins fitted in the valve, assembly time was dramatically reduced, and the customer was able to reduce time spent on testing the valves thanks to an automated testing procedure. In addition, after switching to WEO Plug-Ins, the customer was able to design an extremely compact, customized valve.

Non-drip coupling excels in challenging agriculture application

For more than two years, CEJN Denmark has been working in close cooperation with BioCover to develop a highly specialized non-drip quick-connect coupling series for an agricultural application using sulphuric acid as a catalyst. The sulphuric acid is added to the fertilizer to reduce ammonia emissions when slurry is spread over fields. It also reduces the unpleasant smell that can be a problem with farmland located near populated areas.

The customer started by testing CEJN’s standard Non-Drip series 777 in stainless steel and FPM seals. However, it soon became obvious that the standard product would not be sufficient in this harsh environment. After several field tests, CEJN’s designers came up with a solution that involved a stainless steel material upgrade, high-performance composites, O-ring seals and an improved mechanical functionality.

CEJN would like to congratulate BioCover on the European Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Award they received recently for their SyreN product which is fitted with CEJN Non-Drip quick-connect couplings.
